The Audax and her sister-ship the Pugnax of ZPMC - Red Box Energy Services are the only heavy transport vessels in the world that are capable of navigating Arctic waters the whole year round. These Polar Class 3 Heavy Transport vessels remain capable of breaking through ice 1.5 metres thick at a speed of 3 knots in temperatures of 50 degrees below zero. The ships, measuring more than 200 metres in length, 43 metres in beam and with a maximum draught of 13.5 metres can justifiably be called "ice giants".

Lubrafil previously supplied filter systems from Boll&Kirch and Europafilter for the Red Zed 1 and Red Zed 2, and subsequently for the Audax and Pugnax as well. The Wärtsila diesel engines are equipped with continuously self-cleaning Boll&Kirch lubricating oil filters of type 6.48. Filters from Boll&Kirch for a range of applications are to be found at many points on board these ships.
Lubrafil has supplied oil cleaning systems from Europafilter for the hydraulically powered Local Power Units (LPU). Red Box is well aware that 70% of the contamination in (hydraulic) oil is smaller than 1 micron and that up to 90% of malfunctions in (hydraulic) systems are caused by contaminated oil. The Europafilter systems clean the oil down to 0.1 micron, while at the same time removing water from the oil directly. This means that the oil and the system remain in optimal condition, and the risk of malfunction caused by contamination in the automatic valves is cut to a minimum.
