Tata Steel IJmuiden

Historically, many Boll & Kirch filters have been used at Tata Steel IJmuiden. Continuous operation and often severe operational conditions require the use of many automatic back-flushing filters for various liquid flows, including rinsing water and quench water, as well as filters in oil systems. One of the production locations asked Lubrafil for a replacement Boll & Kirch type 6.10DN50 filter, which had been in use since 1988. After functioning perfectly for 30 years in a rolling oil system, the end of this filter’s ‘life cycle’ was in sight.

Lubrafil offered a replacement in the form of a new Boll & Kirch filter, type 6.18 DN50, which is produced in accordance with the latest technology. This type of filter is more robust in size, which immediately caused a major problem. The system’s construction was so compact that installing this new filter type was impossible.

The challenge for Lubrafil was to overhaul the ‘worn’ Boll & Kirch filter to such a level that it could again perform at its best for years to come. Once the filter arrived, all components were first cleaned ultrasonically and checked for wear and tear. Boll & Kirch helped us to produce new production drawings of the worn parts. The required components were fabricated using the latest technology. After fitting, the filter was subjected to extensive testing, which it passed with flying colours. Tata can again rely on a fully functioning Boll & Kirch filter for many years to come.
