Lubrafil supplies, installs and maintains filters on the WWTPs also during the COVID-19 lock-down

The Netherlands has about 352 sewage treatment plants, spread over 26 water boards. Here the wastewater of all Dutch households and companies (and often also rainwater) is treated. The purification is done day and night, 365 days a year. It is therefore very important that all (critical) equipment is 100% reliable and functions properly.

Boll & Kirch automatic backwash filter

At one of these plants, a Boll & Kirch filter type 6.10-DN200, from 1992 has been faithfully serving for years. During a regular check-up, Lubrafil's service engineers found that the filter (after 27 years) started to deteriorate and the possibility of internal leaks could occur.

The report issued the advice to replace the filter and the Board of Watertreatment has made a request to make a proposal for the delivery, installation and commissioning. In 27 years a lot can change and as it turned out the changed in processes has shown that the required amount of water has decreased. This meant that instead of a GR200-DN200 filter, a considerably smaller GR100-DN150 filter could now be used. In consultation with the Board of Watertreatment, a proposal has been put together on how we could best install the filter and adjust the pipework. Naturally, taking into account the wishes / requirements of the Board of Watertreatment. A job that would take several days. Since this purification can do without filtered water for up to 8 hours, a solution had to be devised.

However, the consequences of the coronavirus COVID-19 virus also came into play here. This meant that additional precautions had to be taken. The safety of our people and that of the customer is of course paramount. This has been coordinated in consultation with the Board of Watertreatment. The job could finally begin.

First of all, the current (to be replaced) filter was moved in 1 day to a free corner in the room and temporarily put back into operation there by means of flexible hoses. This meant that the controlbox also had to move and the waste disposal had to be properly regulated. Quite a job, but this created free workspace and allowed to start the "real" work and there was only very limited no filtered water available.

Days 2 and 3 were for the placement of the new filter in the right place and the adjustment, including welding work, of the stainless steel piping. A precise job in which, partly due to the COVID-19 measures, work had to be optimally structured and communicated. This went perfectly and at the end of day 3 Lubrafil was able to test and commission the new filter. Day 4 was used for the disposal of the old filter and the released materials, so that the workplace was left "spic and span".

All in all a challenging job with good results and a satisfied customer.
